Born one of seven children on July 6, 1935 in Piedmont, Alabama, Joan Rogers Seymour enjoyed meeting new people, dancing and helping others. After graduating from business college, she worked as a legal secretary for a law firm where she was infamous for taking shorthand at 132 words a minute and later worked for many years in the front office of a dental practice. She was an avid square dancer and ballroom dancer, winning blue ribbons in competition. Joan adored animals – especially dogs. She was also famous for her lemon pie. She passed away on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025 in Lawrenceville, Georgia with her son and daughter-in-law by her side.
She is survived by her beloved son James (Susan) Seymour, Jr. of Lawrenceville, Georgia and her sister, Mary Elizabeth (Mert) Mobley, of Piedmont, Alabama.
Joan was preceded in death by mother Tecota Rogers and father Ollie Rogers, brother Ollie Rogers and sisters Monteen Phillips, Jeanette Hall, Jo Ivey, and Dorothy Ann Rogers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 15th, in Piedmont, Alabama at Dansby Heritage Chapel funeral home at 1:00 P.M., visitation will be from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Piedmont. Officiating will be Rev. Hayward Clark.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
