Henry Smith

August 15, 1934 — July 30, 2012

Rev. Henry Orville Smith,  of Piedmont, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012 at his residence. He was surrounded by his wife and sons. Born in Piedmont, Al. on August 15, 1934, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Pearlie Mae Smith and brother to the late Norman Smith. He was a retired minister of 45 years with the Nances Creek Congregational Holiness Church. He also spent several years with different funeral homes and Willis Lumber.

Orville was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and loyal friend.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Thyra Doss Smith of the home, and four sons, Douglas (Becky), Roger (Terri), Gary (Kelly), and Kevin (Vickie) all of Piedmont, Al. Grandchildren Keisha (Kris) Harris, Emily (Chris) Hammett, Christa Smith, Jentre Smith, Maggie Smith, Bryan (Kelly) Pruett, Courtney Mitchell, Troy Brandenstein, Tyler (Santana) Brandenstein. Great-grandchildren Kaleigh, Gavin, Kolier,  Abbie , Cooper and Preston. Brother and sisters, Joyce Danielmeyer, Marlene Ellis, Brenda Johnson, Larry (Judy) Smith, Elvin, Travis (Charlotte) Smith, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Larry Smith, John Smith, Elvin Smith, Travis Smith, Gerald Willis, Bob Pickard, Roy Jones and Keith Penny.

Visitation will be Wed., Aug. 1   from 4-8 PM at Dansby Heritage Chapel, Piedmont Al. (Hwy 278 East).  Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. from Dansby Heritage Chapel with the Revs. Floyd Willis, Phillip Smith and Johnny Hammond officiating. Burial will follow in Nances Creek UMC Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome but donations may be made to the Nances Creek Congregational Holiness Church or the Piedmont Rescue Squad.
