Henry Russell Barnwell Jr., born on December 26, 1944, in Piedmont, Alabama, passed away on February 15, 2026, in Birmingham, Alabama. He lived a full life, marked not only by his strong work ethic but also by his love for engaging with people. Henry devoted many years to his career as a shoe salesman, where he excelled in the art of making connections with every person he encountered. He was known as a true salesman who never met a stranger, always ready with a friendly smile and a warm conversation.
In addition to his professional life, Henry had a passion for gardening. He found joy in nurturing his plants and sharing the fruits of his labor, often delighting friends and family with freshly harvested watermelons sold from the back of his truck.
Henry's commitment to serving his country during his military service is a testament to his character and dedication. He will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.
Henry is survived by his son, Michael Barnwell (Beverly); daughter, Andrea Gibson; and sister, Joy Patty (Donald). He was a beloved grandfather to Daniel Barnwell (Tristen), Nathan Barnwell, Mylah Thompson (Johnny), Holly Gibson, and Nicholas Tricoli. Including his five wonderful great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, H. Russell Barnwell; mother, Ruth Barnwell; daughter, Melissa Tricoli; grandson, Michael Tricoli; brother, Dale Barnwell; and sister, Janie Ivey.
Pallbearers will be: Greg Terry, Bruce Ivey, Chris Ivey, Brandon Terry, Stanley Barnwell, and Russell "Russ" Barnwell. Honorary Pallbearers are: Sparks Harper, Sam Morson, Harold Ponder, Larry Frames, T.L. Moore, Clyde Tyner, Tony Sills, Alan Heedt, and Andy Garcia.
Visitation for Henry will be held on February 19, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of White Plains in Anniston, Alabama, officiated by Rev. Eric Snider, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Following the service will be the burial at Nances Creek Cemetery.
Henry Russell Barnwell Jr. leaves behind a legacy of warmth, generosity, and love that will be cherished by his family and friends. His memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who had the privilege to know him.
