Dessie Pettyjohn

January 24, 1916 — April 4, 2015

DESSIE HOLLAND MINTON PETTYJOHN, 99,  formerly of Piedmont, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Cherokee Health and Rehab in Centre. Mrs. Pettyjohn was born in Borden Springs to James Hill and Bertha Jenett Rutherford Holland who preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by two husbands: Claude Hall Minton and Richard Millard Pettyjohn;  5 siblings:  Mable Piper, James H. Holland, Thelma Weems, Eva Andrews, and Frank Holland; son: Jerry Minton; daughter: Sandra Pettyjohn; and two grandsons:  Michael Pettyjohn and Rodney Daniel.            She retired from Winn-Dixie in 1975 after working in the produce department and deli. She loved to fish and  was a member of the Church of Christ in Centre.                                             Survivors include her daughter:  Marion Lonette Lorren and husband, Melvin T; daughter in law: Ruth Minton; sons: George “Dickie” Pettyjohn and wife, Barbara, and Bobby Pettyjohn; two brothers: Edward Holland and Robert Holland; grandchildren:  Chris Minton Daniel, Jenny Lorren (Joey) Brown, Susan Pettyjohn (Michael) Gould, Alicia Groover, and Wayne (Michelle) Groover, Michelle Pettyjohn, Suzanne Pettyjohn, Steven Julias and John Julias; 10 great grandchildren; 6 great, great grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews,  cousins, and friends.                                                                                                                                                     Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. from Dansby Heritage Chapel with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.   Robert Holland and Gary McCurdy will officiate.                                                                                                          Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Pettyjohn Family.
