Carl Ottis Hilburn, Jr., 61, a lifelong resident of Piedmont, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020 at his residence. Born in Gadsden, Etowah Co., AL, he was a graduate of Piedmont High School, proudly served in the Army National Guard for 9 months, and the US Air Force for 12 years. He was married to Janice Wester Hilburn for 42 years. He was preceded in death by his parents: Carl O. Hilburn, Sr. and Jurrell Collins Hilburn.
He is survived by his wife: Janice; sons: Johnny (Rachel) and Steven Hilburn; chosen daughters: Kayla Crabbe and Paula Hilburn; brothers: Joe Hilburn and Wayne Hilburn; half-brother: George Hilburn; sister: Margaret Hilburn; half-sister: Connie Frost; his beloved little dog, Tinker, who was always at his side; grandchildren: Alexis Hilburn, Anabelle Hilburn, Montana Hilburn, Braeden Hilburn, Hunter Hilburn, Daisy Hilburn, and Xander Hilburn; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m. from Dansby Heritage Chapel with Rev. Brian Watts officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Carl was a member/Commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 21 of Piedmont and the Piedmont Veterans Group. He loved to fish, hunt, and be outdoors. He loved working on stuff and being with his family, supporting his kids and grandkids in their endeavors. He collected guns, knives, loved to garden, and take his grandkids to work and fish at the lake lot.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Hilburn, Steven Hilburn, James Fortenberry, Cory Steed, Joey Fagan and Alex Sparks.
Masks are required and social distancing of six feet will apply as mandated by the State of Alabama health officials.
